Conditions Dr. Wehmann Treats
As a vein doctor serving Greensboro and the Lake Oconee area, he evaluates and treats vein conditions at every stage, from early symptoms to advanced disease.
– Varicose veins and spider veins
– Chronic venous insufficiency, also called venous reflux
– Leg swelling, heavy legs and leg fatigue
– Aching, cramping or restless legs
– Skin discoloration and slow-healing wounds near the ankles
His training in both vascular surgery and wound care is especially helpful for patients whose vein disease has started to affect the skin.
How Vein Disease Affects Healing
When the valves in the leg veins stop working properly, blood pools in the lower legs. Over time, that pressure can darken the skin near the ankles and make small injuries slow to heal. These are among the later signs of poor circulation in the legs, and treating the underlying vein problem is an important part of helping them heal.
Vein Treatment Options
Every plan begins with an in-office ultrasound performed by a Registered Vascular Technologist. Depending on the results, Dr. Wehmann may recommend:
Radiofrequency ablation (RFA), which closes the unhealthy vein so blood moves through healthy ones.
Sclerotherapy, an injection treatment for spider veins and small varicose veins.
Procedures are done in the office, usually in under an hour, and most patients return to normal activity the same day.
When to See a Vein Specialist
Consider an evaluation if you notice:
– Swelling that returns every day
– Legs that feel heavy or achy by evening
– Veins that are growing larger or more uncomfortable
– Skin near the ankles that is changing color or slow to heal
Sudden swelling, pain or warmth in one leg needs urgent medical attention, because it can be a sign of a blood clot.
